Kate Middleton and Prince Williams have the same parental concerns for their children as any other parent. Kate has to monitor his screen time. Recent reports suggest Prince Willliam’s confession that his children are very fascinated by the computer, most notably his eight-year-old son, Prince George, who loves to play computer games.

“Got to be careful” with games.

The Duke of Cambridge, also the President of the British Academy Film Awards, tried out a video game during his visit to the BAFTA’s redeveloped headquarters situated in London. He launched his bursary scheme called “supercharge”, which represents and supports new talents from underrepresented groups. This organization commits itself to provide an opportunity to anyone with the potential and helping them develop their skills.

The charity supports, generates, and promotes film, tv, and computer games. Prince William also met the Youngest Game Designer Mentor winner of BAFTA, Harry Petch, age 20, and revealed a relatable dilemma that most parents face every day. Harry showed the Duke his carbon-capturing game “Net Carbon” and its operation. The game was unveiled at Cop26 in Glasgow in 2021. Having to play the game himself, the future King revealed that his eldest son adored these games, forcing him to regularly regulate his gaming screen time.

BAFTA

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is the biggest celebration of global excellence in all kinds of art that form in moving images, for example, film, games, and television, in the UK. Most of the BAFTA awards are open to all nationalities, but only UK films are eligible for The British Short Film award and British Short Animation Award categories. These awards are equivalent to the Oscars. The annual award ceremonies are also famous for providing a learning event and initiative to talent through workshops, masterclass, scholarships, mentoring, and lectures in the UK.

The fundings rely on membership subscriptions, donations, trusts, corporate partnerships, and foundations, and the charity has also announced new schemes. The BAFTA Elevate scheme is designed to fund and support all underrepresented groups of films and television producers seeking to progress in high-end television drama and comedy features. The Connect membership will open this year and is designed for emerging mid-level creatives to build a professional network. Elevate 2022 would focus on producers from disabled, ethnic minorities, and lower socio-economic backgrounds, providing them with the same exposure and opportunities as others.

Screentime and children

Many statistical reports have shown that kids from age 5 to 15 spend 80% of their day on phones or computers, which affects their minds and growth. On average, children ages 8-12 in the United States spend 4-6 hours a day watching or using screens, and teens spend up to 9 hours.

Children should be limited to only 1 to 2 hours of screen time per day. Many parents allow screen before bed by studies have proven that exposure to screens before bed can lead to sleep problems, weaken eyesight, and mood problems which is why doctors suggest turning off your tv, laptop, or phones 30 to 60 minutes before bed.
