Makeup mogul Kylie Jenner has been called a social media superstar for two reasons: first, she has millions of followers who are always eagerly awaiting new posts from her, and second, she knows how to leverage the platform for financial gains. Between all social media platforms, the youngest of the reality family admits that she has an unhealthy relationship with Instagram, one of the avenues where celebrities can share snippets of their lives through pictures and short clips.
Boasting close to 190 million followers in the photo-sharing app, Kylie is, no doubt, on all the users’ horizons. With this many fans on the app, the 22-year-old becomes the fourth most followed on Instagram, trailing behind Dwayne Johnson (193 million), Ariana Grande (197 million), and Cristiano Ronaldo (235 million).
Heavily Reliant on the App
Through the years, Instagram has gained millions of users who are addicted to how they can use visuals to share emotions. But it didn’t just attract those interested in sharing photos but also businesses looking to connect with potential customers.
Kylie, being one of the most well-known celebrities and businesswomen on Instagram, also knows how to leverage her popularity to promote her eponymous company. The mom of one has been posting photos of her products and even tutorials on her account.
The former youngest self-made billionaire admitted in the past that she cuts marketing costs by doing the promotion on Instagram herself – and it seems to work for her because of her booming sales. Kylie also confessed in an interview that the platform plays a huge role in her business.
Problem?
In the overall scheme of things, Kylie is obviously making good use of her power on Instagram but her dependence on the social networking app can bring out a problem in the long run. It is worth noting that the app owned by social networking giant Facebook has been reigning supreme for quite a long time now, unlike other apps such as Snapchat and Vine that only saw success for a short while.
The longevity of Instagram is truly impressive, given the many apps that are popping nowadays. TikTok, for example, has been taking the world by storm but the photo-sharing platform is trying to be competitive by finding new ways to keep up.
However, until when will Instagram be alive? It will eventually become obsolete – just like how MySpace, which used to be the bomb back in the days, vanished from the worldwide web. This is why Kylie’s tactic may become problematic in the future.
Nonetheless, if Kylie decided to ditch her business, she can comfortably do so and never have to lift her finger because she has a $900-million (and still growing) fortune.
